Arbor Day 5th Grade Poster Contest
The Rooted in Wray Tree Committee participated for the 2nd year in the Arbor Day Poster Contest hosted by the Colorado Tree Coalition. The theme was The Superpowers of Trees. The Tree Board’s goal is to continue to encourage interest and knowledge in our community’s trees. In March, Tree Board members, Kelly Sampson and Karyn Troudt held a presentation with the 5th grade science students to inform them of the contest, hand out poster paper, and provide information about the tree board and the importance of trees. All finished posters were provided back to the Tree Board where all committee members voted on the winning design based on how well they fit the theme/title and overall creativity of artwork. The 1st place poster was then mailed to the Colorado Tree Coalition where they will compete with other 5th grade students throughout the state. The Colorado Tree Coalition will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards for the top 3 pieces of student artwork. The grand prize-winning student will receive a $500 cash prize, a professional framing of their winning poster, as well as a recognition ceremony at Denver Botanic Gardens. All winning posters from each school will be on display at the Denver Botanic Gardens between 4/16-5/15. The winning poster for the Wray Elementary School went to Nora Gdanitz. Honorable mentions went to Brinley Lorimer, Graham Dickson, E’lyza Boone, Alaina Schulz, Itzel Ruiz Trevizo, Ronin Lake, Juliet Reynoso Morales, Mia Arellano Gonzalez, Kendyl Oestman, Kitsyn Hasenauer, Jaxon DePue, Karsen Merritt, Sofia Peterson and Maximillian Bukowski. All submitted posters from the 5th grade students at Wray Elementary School will be on display at the Wray Rehabilitation and Activities Center (WRAC) for the month of April. Please stop by the WRAC to see all the posters created by these very talented Wray 5th graders.
