Our Community Collections exhibits are bimonthly displays which provide opportunities for local residents to temporarily showcase their talents and personal collection items for public viewing. These displays are designed to promote the Museum’s mission through engagement with visual arts!
Preserved in Time: A Dried Flower Art Exhibit
The Wray Museum invites you to experience the quiet beauty of the prairie through Preserved in Time, a community art exhibit showcasing the delicate artistry of dried flower creations by local residents.
Running July 8 through September 13, the exhibit features pieces created by participants after attending a hands-on workshop in April. The workshop was part of the museum’s “Back to Our Roots” series—an initiative aimed at rediscovering traditional art forms practiced by the early settlers of the High Plains and reconnecting with the slow, intentional rhythms of the past.
Each work in Preserved in Time is a thoughtful composition of dried flowers and native plant materials, reflecting themes of memory, identity, and connection to the land. From framed botanical displays to textured shadowboxes, the exhibit captures the resilience and subtle beauty of the prairie landscape.
“This exhibit is as much about the land as it is about the people who live with and learn from it,” said Ardith Hendrix, Director of the Wray Museum. “Each piece in Preserved in Time carries a story—not just of the flower itself, but of the hands that picked, pressed, and placed it.”
Visitors are encouraged to slow down, take a closer look, and appreciate the enduring spirit of both the prairie and the people who call it home.
