Valentine Tea "David Wood as Benjamin Franklin"The Wray Museum‘s annual Valentine's Day Tea will be held on Sunday, February 24 at 1:00 p.m. David C. Wood will bring Benjamin Franklin to life, providing a very real sense of the history of one of America’s Founding Fathers, as well as an inventor, scientist, printer, politician, freemason, and diplomat. Franklin helped to draft the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, and he negotiated the 1783 Treaty of Paris ending the Revolutionary War. His scientific pursuits included investigations into electricity, mathematics, and mapmaking. A writer known for his wit and wisdom, Franklin also published Poor Richard’s Almanac, invented bifocal glasses, and organized the first successful American lending library. David’s portrayal captures the intellect, humor, wit and humanity of this legendary historical figure. David is a father of two, a former Chief of Police, a Veteran of the Armed Services, a recipient of a Presidential Volunteer Award, and a graduate of the College of Mortuary Science in San Francisco, CA; he worked several years as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Dave has been a Chautauqua performer for over 16 years. He presents Benjamin Franklin, warm and smiling, fun-loving, soft spoken—mild mannered and rather late in his life. Franklin is a complex, multi-faceted person with an immense intellect who made an enormous contribution to the founding of America. The talented Ann Ware will provide musical entertainment during the tea. Members of Wray High School Rho Kappa will be serving a Parisian tea with fruit, handcrafted pastries and assorted teas prior to the program. The event is sponsored by the East Yuma County Historical Society. Tickets are available at the Wray Museum and are $20 per person with limited seating. The Wray Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. or call 970-332-5063 to reserve you seat.
